Glorious Weekend

Oh surely the Lord smiled on me this weekend. I have often ministered concerning God's healing power. I'm not just referring to physical healing, although certainly He has revealed His amazing miracle power. But God is interested in our well-being emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and relationship matters also. Many individuals know a bit about the past 10-12 years without knowing many of the details. Sometimes terrible misunderstandings in a person's motive happen and lack of communication cause strife and division even amogn men who deeply care for one another. Sometimes the divide becomes massive and threatens to end a fellowship.

Well, I will not pont fingers at anyone and lay the total blame on them. My actions were instrumental in causing the rift.

Let me not dwell on that because #1 it's been healed! Praise God! #2 People love juicy stories especially where Christians are involved. LOVE prevailed!

My Christian brother is going through great travail and I am privileged to pray for him; to stand beside him as he fights this fight of his life. I am proud to say we stand together for the cause of Christ, both of us very regretful that this period of time was wasted. Lost never to be regained.

I praise God for His power, for His healing. He is so good to me.

Look Up, Not Around

Martin R. Castro, chairman of the US Commission on Civil Rights, in the commission’s latest report on discrimination laws, writes, “The phrases ‘religious liberty’ and ‘religious freedom’ [are] code words for discrimination, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamaphobia, Christian supremacy [and] intolerance.?

The report singles out Christianity, argues that LGBT rights are more important than the Constitutional guarantee of religious liberty, and suggests that the government may restrict citizens’ freedom to practice their religious beliefs.1

Since the creation, this is not new. Goodness has been under attack from evil, actually, before man was created, when satan rebelled against God.

God’s Word warns those who would oppose Him.

Isa 5:20

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! KJV

As my wife and I were discussing this she came across this scripture from the Worldwide English New Testament. We love the way it words things.

2 Timothy 3

Worldwide English (New Testament) (WE)

Be sure of this. In the last days hard times will come.

People will love themselves. They will love money. They will talk about themselves and be proud. They will say wrong things about people. They will not obey their parents. They will not be thankful. They will not keep anything holy.

They will have no love. They will not agree with anybody. They will tell lies about people. They will have no self-control. They will beat people. They will not love anything that is good.

They cannot be trusted. They will act quickly, without thinking. They are proud of themselves. They love to have fun more than they love God.

They act as if they worshipped God, yet they do not let God's power work in their lives. Keep away from people like that.

They are the kind who go quietly into people's houses. There they get foolish women to believe them. These women know that they have done many wrong things. And they want to do many kinds of wrong things.

They are always trying to learn, but never able to find out what is really true.

Unfortunately, this is our world’s situation. The scripture is telling us hard (perilous KJV) times are coming for the Christian. The disciples worshipped the Lord and praised Him that He counted them worthy to suffer for His name’s sake.

True Children of God are NOT prejudice, do NOT hate but try to show the love of God. The situation is that Jesus came to take away the sin of the world. He came to save the lost. And we represent this wonderful gospel. But some of the lost don’t want to be saved and they hate anyone or thing that embodies a viewpoint of judgment against a world that rejects Christ.

We must hold on to our faith. To be overcomers we must truly love Jesus with ALL our hearts. We must also understand that we may lose our lives and freedom by the hands of wicked men and laws.

If this scares you, please realize it will take a sacrificial love for Jesus, just as He had died for you to be strong enough to hang in there. But remember Jesus words in Luke 21:28

But when these things begin to happen, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near.”

Also read 1 Thess. 4:16-18

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God’s trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first,  then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.               So we will be with the Lord forever.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

God bless you,

Pastor John Koonce

Excellent ... how could anyone dispute 2 Timothy Chapter 3 being the very world we are living in...

Happy New Year; What does that mean? by Pastor John Koonce

So another year is upon us. 2017 is here. 2016 is gone. Many have made their new year's resolutions and sincerely are attempting to make a change. Most forget the promise and live as they always have, however, some actually go a few months or so before they give up. Why is this? Well I am no expert on human psycology, but I do have a limited knowlege of human nature having Pastored for 23 years and trained under the very best for 14 years prior to that.

Jeremiah asks in Jer. 13 23b "Can a leopard change his spots?' Well, no. Because they are part of his makeup. They help us identify him as a leopard. True we could spray paint him a different color, but he would still be a leopard.

We have a kitten/cat. He is a wild thing. He is a lion in the living room. He will attack anything that moves, and he will bite. Not hard, but he bites. He is revealing his true nature. My son found him up in under our car, shivering with fear. he was so tiny and momma was nowhere to be found. I saw her a few  days later and she is a wild outdoor cat. I have no idea how many generations of cats   that have passed when someone threw their kitty ourside to fend for himself, but we have one of the offspring. He's a cute cat. But he's a cat. He will let us pet him for awhile but he will tire of it and will start to fight. I can't make him act like a dog because he is a cat. He may resolve to do better but he can't because he is a cat.

We are unable to change ourselves. I don't mean to imply that we can't make changes in our behavior because it has happened to many times. But it takes practice and discipline and training etc.

Our nature is that of a sinner. David, the 2nd King of ancient Israel who was called a man after God's own heart though he sinned horrible sin, was called this by God because he sought after the Lord with all his heart. This David said, "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity and in sin did my mother concieve me." Psalm 51:5. He recognized that any good in him was because of God. If he was called good it was because God was working in his life. But by his own nature he was a sinner.

That's what we are. Except we acknowledge and believe the sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary and understand that lasting change only comes through Him, we can't truly make the real changes in our lives' that enable us to be that person we want to be.

It is good to want to make changes. It's good not to be satisfied  with status quo. It may not be such a bad idea to make resolutions if we understand what they truly are. But change comes within. Change starts in the heart, a heart that yearns for truth, for God. He knows we can't do it alone. That's why Jesus came. The Bible says that He came to seek and to save that which was lost. Meaning you and me. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. That's our nature. His nature is to remold and make us in the image of His dear son, Christ Jesus the righteous.

In His Service.

Pastor John Koonce
